Deportivo Riestra Signs Nigerian Forward Johnson Nsumoh

During the transfer window, Deportivo Riestra made one of the most surprising signings by registering forward Johnson Nsumoh, a Nigerian player coming from the Slovak second division. According to the Argentine News Agency, the left-sided winger arrives as a free agent from Banik Lehota and will sign a contract until the end of the year. However, his transfer is not yet confirmed: the only hurdle that could prevent him from joining the “Malevo” is the immigration procedures he must overcome in the coming days. Ahead of their debut in the Copa Sudamericana and going through their best moment in history, Deportivo Riestra secured a completely exotic reinforcement: the Nigerian Johnson Nsumoh. Standing at 1.70 meters and 24 years old (turning 25 in June), the forward, born in Port Harcourt and with spells in various minor European leagues, could have his first cycle in Argentine football. Nsumoh emerged from the Nigerian club Family Lovey and developed most of his career in Europe. His career then took him to play for FC Vion, Trencin, and Banik Lehota, establishing himself in Slovak football. Being a starter for most of the year, the Nigerian played in all positions in the attack and played 12 matches, scoring two goals and providing two assists. The jersey he wore most was that of the aforementioned Mosta, a club in which he has 24 registered matches. Additionally, with this club, he reached the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa Conference League, scoring a goal and providing an assist in the first leg of the first qualifying round, which his team could not overcome. In case his arrival to the Bajo Flores team is confirmed, Nsumoh will be the ninth signing for Riestra, among which stand out the loans of goalkeeper Gastón “Chila” Gómez, from Racing, midfielder Nicolás Watson, from Instituto, and midfielder Alejo Dramisino, who came from Atlanta. His first arrival in Slovakia was in 2020, on a loan spell at Spartak Trnava, to then join Mosta FC of Malta as a free agent the following year. With two years there and a loan in Birkirkara from the same country in between, Nsumoh returned to Slovakia in 2023, signing for Slovan Galanta.
